Sunset Nylectric DLX

Cort Guitars has built its reputation on delivering innovative instruments that meet the needs of modern-day players. With the Sunset Nylectric DLX, Cort takes a bold step into hybrid territory, combining the warm voice of nylon strings with the feel and playability of a sleek electric. It’s a guitar designed for crossover musicians, adventurous performers, and anyone curious about exploring nylon tones without giving up familiar comfort.

The guitar community has noticed. Recently, Guitar World magazine and Guitar Interactive magazine put the Sunset Nylectric DLX through its paces, praising its tone, design, and versatility. Their verdicts shine a light on why this unique instrument is turning heads and worthy of thoughtful consideration.

Cort’s Hybrid Vision

Hybrid guitars have often been a challenge to perfect. Traditional nylon string guitars provide rich, warm tone, but their wide, bulky necks can intimidate steel-string and electric players. On the other hand, many slimline nylon designs sacrifice quality of sound for playability.

Cort’s solution is the Sunset Nylectric DLX: a single cutaway, thinline body that’s compact and lightweight, paired with a neck profile and nut width that feels instantly familiar to electric players. Add advanced Fishman® electronics, and you’ve got a stage-ready, nylon stringed instrument that thrives both amplified and unplugged.

Guitar World's Review

In its in-depth feature, Guitar World magazine gave the guitar an overall 4.5-star rating declaring it “the ideal gateway instrument for electric guitar players who want to add nylon-string classical/flamenco tones to their stage and studio repertoires.”

“Every guitarist should have at least one nylon string guitar in their collection” they continued. Even better? “A nylon string acoustic-electric guitar that can hold its own amongst amplified instruments on stage.” This is where the Sunset Nylectric DLX really shined. Guitar World praised the body design for its easy access to the entire fretboard and the chambered body for being able to deliver a true acoustic tone, either amplified or acoustic. Combine this innovative design with the Fishman® S-Core VTB electronics and you have a guitar that is well suited for almost any occasion requiring nylon string tones. The combination really preserves the natural resonance and expressive nuances of a nylon string guitar.

Guitar Interactive's Video Review

This is a fantastic video demonstration of what the Sunset Nylectric DLX can do. More importantly – how it sounds! Guitar Interactive’s Nick Jennison opens the video demonstration up with a beautiful example of the guitars tone. After reviewing the specs on the guitar, Nick does a wonderful job of showing the wide array of tone flexibility one has with a guitar of this caliber ranging from jazz voicings to the more traditional nylon tones by simply turning through the two adjustable tone controls. To close out the demonstration, Nick performs a piece that truly covers the entire fretboard showing the guitar’s versatility, playability, and tone. It is a video worth watching.

What Makes the Sunset Nylectric DLX So Special?

The Sunset Nylectric DLX boasts a meticulously crafted solid spruce top with flamed maple veneer, on a chambered mahogany body, providing a rich tonal foundation. The flamed maple veneer in Tobacco Sunburst finish, wood binding, and gold hardware add to the guitar’s visual appeal, while its ebony fretboard and bridge paired with a tapered and slotted headstock promise durability and easy playability. The guitar’s unique shape draws inspiration from both traditional acoustic aesthetics and modern electric styling resulting in a distinctively appealing appearance, as well as comfort and balance. A thinner body depth of 45mm, as well as a gently beveled neck-body joint heel and 1 7/8” (48mm) nut width provide further comfort, whatever the playing situation. Graph Tech® TUSQ nut and saddle are used to enhance harmonics, volume, and sustain.

Loaded with an advanced Fishman® VTB Preamp, the Sunset Nylectric DLX allows for seamless amplification without abandoning authentic nylon-string acoustic timbre. The built-in EQ system makes it simple to dial in the ideal nylon string sound in any environment.

Lastly, the guitar is factory set up with Savarez® Cristal Corum 500CJ high tension nylon strings. Widely considered the best nylon string brand in the world, Savarez uses Corum polished-silver wound bass strings and Cristal trebles. The high tension makes playing this guitar a breeze. And to keep this new guitar safe and secure, each guitar comes with a premium gig bag.
