Given his remarkable talent and influence, Bombino is often referred to as “the Hendrix of the Sahel” due to his dazzling live performances and virtuosity on the guitar. During his tours in 2012, Bombino experienced a guitar malfunction and began using the Cort G250, which marked the beginning of his long-standing relationship with Cort. He later transitioned to the KX-Custom guitar and, since 2022, has been using the G290 FAT II.

In 2025, Bombino has continued his musical journey with an extensive series of tours. During his February tour, Bombino utilized the Cort G290 FAT II, showcasing its versatility and reliability on stage. The guitar's Voiced Tone VTH-77 pickups were particularly well-suited to Bombino's dynamic playing style, providing the high-output, articulate sound necessary for his complex and powerful performances. The roasted maple neck and fretboard offered enhanced resonance and sustain, contributing to the rich, full-bodied tone that Bombino is known for. The compound radius fingerboard (12” – 15.75”) facilitated smooth transitions between chords and solos, making it ideal for Bombino's intricate playing. Overall, the G290 FAT II‘s ergonomic design and high-quality materials ensured Bombino could play comfortably for extended periods, whether in the studio or on stage.

In his own words:

The G290 FAT II is my favorite guitar. I can always depend on it in the studio or live on stage. The neck profile is very comfortable, making playing effortless. I love how light it is, as well as how beautiful and resonant the wood is. The fretwork, Cort® Voiced Tone VTH77 pickups, and the bridge are of very high quality and have never let me down. From small clubs to large music festivals, the guitar always sits in the mix perfectly when I perform live. It has an articulate low-end, punchy mids, and sweet, never glassy highs.
